October, 2026

Dear Families, Community Members, and Board Members,

We opened our new football field with a Homecoming win and a weekend of celebration. This month, we are also sharing student work on campus, a college visit, community service, and updates from our counseling and performing arts programs.
A Homecoming win on our new field
On Friday, October 2, the Grizzlies played the first competition on our new, long-overdue football field and defeated Rio Vista 22–6. It was a memorable opening for the field and a special night for our students, families, staff, and community.
Our band also played its first football game of the season on Friday, adding music and school spirit to the celebration. Thank you to the players, coaches, band members, staff, volunteers, and families who helped make the evening a success.
The football field is finished, and work will now focus on completing the track. We appreciate our community’s patience and cooperation as the remaining construction continues.
Students help build the new ticket booth
John Ledo’s woodshop class worked on the new ticket booth, putting classroom skills to use on a project that serves our school. Their contribution gave students a direct role in preparing the campus for this milestone.
Saturday night Homecoming celebration
The celebration continued with a great Homecoming dance on Saturday, October 3. Thank you to the students and adults who helped make the evening a memorable part of our Homecoming weekend.
Student service at Kids Expo
FFA and Key Club members will run booths at Kids Expo at Garden Valley Park this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We invite families and community members to stop by and support our students as they serve local children and families.
UNR Visit
Golden Sierra students during their college visit.

Exploring college opportunities at UNR
Our College and Career Success class visited the University of Nevada, Reno, giving students an opportunity to explore college life and learn about admissions. The admissions presenter praised our students as the most well-behaved group and best listeners she had hosted.
Students connected with Golden Sierra alumni Laban, Tosh, Lexie, and Elena, who now attend UNR. Seeing former Grizzlies on campus helped make the college experience more personal. After the Reno tour, the class also visited UNR’s Tahoe campus.
Bullying prevention throughout October
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Samantha Altavilla shared that bullying prevention education will be presented in seventh- and eighth-grade classrooms. Families and students are also receiving weekly messages and Grizzly Connection participation challenges through ParentSquare.
We encourage families to review these messages together and participate in the challenges as we work to make Golden Sierra a welcoming place for every student.
Drama and songwriting
Our drama students are preparing their fall play, “This Murder Was Staged.” We look forward to sharing performance information as it becomes available.
On Monday, October 26, Rita Hosking will visit for a songwriting workshop, offering students an opportunity to develop their creative work with a visiting musician.

Thank you for supporting our students and the opportunities that help them learn, contribute, and connect with their community.
