Independent Study

Student  Short  Term  Independent  Study  Contract  :  Parents  are  encouraged  to  refer  to  the  school  calendar  and  to  daily  school  hours  when  planning  family  schedules  and  appointments.  Students  who  know  they  will  be  absent  for  a  period  of  time  MUST  complete  a  short-term  independent  study  form  which  can  be  obtained  in  the  high  school  office.  The  form  must  be  completed  in  advance  of  the  planned  departure  and  all  work  must  be  submitted  upon  returning  to  school.  If  the  work  is  not  turned  in  when  the  student  returns,  the  absence  will  become  “unexcused”.  Short-term  independent  study  contracts  extending  beyond  two  weeks  must  be  approved  one  week  in  advance  by  the  principal  or  assistant  principal.  

Student  Long  Term  Independent  Study  Contract  :  Parents  are  encouraged  to  refer  to  the  Board  Policy  6158:  Independent  Study.  To  apply  for  Independent  Study  please  contact  the  Golden  Sierra  Registrar.  The  selection  process  includes  a  student-parent-educator  conference  meeting  before  enrollment;  students’  rights  regarding  procedures  for  enrolling  and/or  disenrolling  in  independent  study/  and  the  synchronous  and  asynchronous  instructional  time  that  a  student  is  required  to  meet  as  part  of  the  independent  study  master  agreement.
