Golden Sierra Track & Field Update

As of August 28, 2026

We are excited to share an update on the Measure A bond funded facility improvements underway at Golden Sierra High School! Construction is moving along on state of the art upgrades designed for our students, athletes, and our Divide community.

Key Project Upgrades & Features
Synthetic Turf & Multi Sport Lines: Turf installation is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 31, with green on the field expected by mid September. The new synthetic surface replaces traditional SBR black rubber granules with an ecofriendly infill mixture of sand and ceramic cooling performance granules, keeping the field cooler on hot days while meeting strict safety and performance guidelines. The turf itself includes a 10 year warranty, as well as dedicated line markings to accommodate both football and soccer!
All Weather Track & Field Events: A modern 6 lane winterized track engineered for year round training, events, and competition regardless of weather conditions. The facility features dedicated event spaces with upgraded track & field areas, including discus and javelin spaces integrated directly into the field end zones.
Accessibility & Campus Experience: Dedicated ADA compliant parking, a new ticket booth, and expanded accessible seating and pathways to ensure a smooth, inclusive game-day experience for all fans.
Infrastructure Improvements: A comprehensive drainage system replacement and asphalt prep work to protect long-term site quality and safety.
Sound System Upgrades & Relocation: Existing speakers will be relocated to enhance the event experience for all spectators. The setup will also feature additional speakers inside the stadium and within our announcer’s box to ensure optimal audio coverage. (not covered by Measure A).
Current Timeline:
The unanticipated full drainage replacement delayed the installation of the turf by approximately 15 days (set to begin Monday). We know how important Homecoming is to our students and community. We are currently working on a temporary access plan to allow us to play our two scheduled home games in October during construction. Priority will be given to the Homecoming game on October 2nd. Further updates will be provided on our website and through ParentSquare as information is made available from our construction team.
Looking Ahead
We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding while our stadium is under construction. We know the temporary disruption to our usual activities and access is an inconvenience, but we are thrilled for what lies ahead. Once complete, these transformational upgrades will provide a safer, top tier home for Grizzly athletics, while giving valued community partners, like Gold Nugget Soccer, Junior Grizzy Football, and our community a site to host events for years to come, and serve as a source of pride for the entire Black Oak Mine Community.
Thank you to our community for your continued support in making these transformational upgrades possible!
