Golden Sierra's Alex Murray Enters State Tournament Ranked 2nd in Overall Varsity Skiing

Golden Sierra enjoys a proud tradition of athletics that includes over 70 League Titles, 7 Sac-Joaquin Section Championships, and numerous individuals who have earned all-GEL, all-SJS, and all-CIF honors. Varsity sports offerings include football, cross country, boys and girls volleyball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, golf, tennis, swimming, softball, baseball, track, skiing, and rodeo. Many of these programs also offer JV and Freshman teams.

GRIZZLY CROSS COUNTRY TEAM PLACE 19TH IN STATE FINALS
The Grizzly Cross Country Team, led by Team Captain Ryan Sewell, placed 19th in the CIF State Cross Country Finals held at Woodward Park in Fresno on November 30th. Ryan placed 54th overall with a time of 17:17 for the 5K race which was a personal best time. Ryan was follwed by teammates David Blanton 105th in 18:07, Hunter Hughes 138th in 18:35, Chris Lopez 173rd in 19:30, Nick Blanton 176th in 19:34, Allan Nicholson 177th in 19:40, and Nick Anaya in 197th in 22:32. The team's goals were to beat Foresthill High School and be in the Top 20 in the State Finals. Everyone had a great time and looked forward to the possibility of returning to the State Met next year where they hope to improve upon their placement in this year's Finals.
DIVISION 5 SECTION CHAMPIONS
VARSITY BOYS CROSS COUNTRY ARE DIVISION 5 SECTION CHAMPIONS
The Varsity Boys Cross Country Team won the Division 5 Section Championship for the 1st time in school history. The team was led by Senior Jason Yurgelevic who placed 2nd overall in 17:26. He was followed by Junior Ryan Sewell who placed 3rd in 17:39, Senior David Blanton in 8th at 18:23, Junior Hunter Hughes 11th in 18:51, Sophomore Chris Pugh 17th in 19:19, Junior Nick Blanton 31st in 20:05 and Sophomore Allan Nicholson 35th in 20:34. The team won the race with a combined score of 35 points to Foresthill's 68 points. The team will now travel to Fresno, California where they will compete at the CIF State Cross Country Finals on November 30th.
