Program and Course Information

Join us in supporting arts education for all students at GSHS!

Our art program offers a variety of classes and opportunities for all skill levels. Courses developing techniques, skill and knowledge range from 3D courses in Ceramics to 2D courses in Drawing, Painting, and Multi-Mediums. All courses incorporate Art History and Color Theory with Elements of Art and Principles of Design.

All classes meet the California Content Standards for Visual.

 

California Content Standards for Visual Arts for Grades 7-8 and 9-12

ART 7:  (grade 7) Introductory class learning color theory, elements of design, various materials and genres of art

 

Studio Arts 1:   (grades 9-12)   Introductory class learning Elements of Art/Principles of Design,  

                              Perspectives, materials, genres of art, Art History, skills and knowledge

  • Reality check: This class is required to take other art classes. YOU WILL LEARN SO MUCH IN THIS CLASS!

Ceramics 1:    (grades 11-12)   Introductory class exploring everything clay.

  • Take this class if:  you like creating with your hands and passed Studio Arts 1.
  • Reality check:  you'll get DiRtY!

 

THE FOLLOWING CLASSES ARE THE NEXT LEVEL OF BEGINNING ART CLASSES

 

Studio Arts 2:     (grades 11-12)

Ceramics 2:       (grades 11-12)

  • Take these classes if: you really enjoyed and passed the beginning level and  want to create more complex works. Students will learn: Series Artwork, introducing and completing formal artists portfolio that includes Titling Series, Artist Statement, Artist Biography, Artist Resume, Digitally photographing artwork, Creating an artist website and applications for colleges for Visual Arts.
  • Reality check: you'll need a minimum of "B" grade in beginning art course teachers approval as these are prerequisite courses..
